Weekend at Sarah's!

After months (literally) of saving the date and planning this little get-away, I finally got to see Sarah! She lives about 2 hours away in Warda, just north of La Grange (outside of Austin). She lives on lots of land, has horses, dogs, cattle, cats, a rabbit and whatever else wanders onto her property!
(that's the mom and her son!)

I seriously felt like I was walking up to a bed and breakfast.
Her house is so cute and the views are amazing.

lots of barns/workshops & a fire pit

After arriving and taking the official tour of her newly renovated house, she told me she was pregnant!!! So, it's official. My last friend who wasn't pregnant or with child, now is. I was in complete shock. She had called earlier that week asking what kind of wine I preferred this weekend. Nice cover up! With that said, we enjoyed a cocktail with her husband (Sarah's being non-alcoholic) and celebrated the good news and her health. Because Sarah is automatically considered a high risk pregnancy, she gets to see the OB once a week, listen to "it's" heartbeat and see ultrasound pictures every week. However, she also has to give herself a shot in her tummy every day. Brave woman. After calming ourselves back down to reality, we hit the road and drove down to La Grange for some shopping on the square.
It is such a cute Texas town with extremely friendly people. After shopping, we hung around her house enjoying the horses and talking with Jake. He is doing so well with his musical career- it's amazing to know that other people are appreciating his talent! We then went to Murphy's Steakhouse. We called ahead to several restaurants for reservations, but they were all booked, so we took our chances with the standby list! Who would have thought in such a small town you would have trouble finding a table...but after we ate, I totally understood! Best chicken fried steak EVER!!!

Back at the house, we sat outside and watched the dogs with their "treats." These dogs fetch their own treats, and tonight, it was a deer!!! Yes, they are munching on deer legs they caught themselves.
 Only in the country...

We stayed up talking a bit and then headed to bed for our big day of shopping in Round Top. Jake had a show outside of Dallas, so he would be resting up for that and missing out out on our shopping trip!

Round Top is just a few miles away and this was obviously not Sarah's first time to go. She came prepared with her own shopping cart! Jake and I made fun of her for it, but as soon as we got there, I realized we were so wrong. All the locals brought their own shopping carts to haul all their goods away in! Round Top is an area where hundreds of vendors bring their antiques, homemade items and junk to sell twice a year. There were snacks, food tents, drinks, and even a little entertainment spread out for about a mile and it was crowded! It was lots of fun, quite the adventure and we even came home with some "goods."

After the day of shopping, we headed to Giddings to eat at their favorite Mexican place.

Then we headed back to the house, built a fire and roasted somores! Perfect way to end the trip.

I am so blessed to have a friend like Sarah, and fortunate that she now lives only 2 hours away!
This will not be my last trip to Warda : )
