Gold Coast: Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Head & Coolengata

We traveled an hour southeast of Brisbane and stayed in Burleigh Head for the past three days. We had an awesome condo on the beach and we could walk to everything.
There was a Breaka Surfing competition going on all week sponsored by Roxy and Quicksilver, so there was some VERY good entertainment on the beach! We usually posted out in front of the condo, which was much quieter than down the beach, but the waves were still rough.

After the beach, we typically came back to the pool & hot tub. It was a definite reminder to my parents on what they are missing out on. My parents also started out every morning in the hot tub, but we slept through that! I think I could talk them into coming home earlier than expected if I promised an amazing hot tub waiting for them.

The only "Australian" food that we don't typically eat in the US is a "pie". We ate at Big Daddy's Pies and all tried different kinds. It's a mushy mixture of some arrangement of meat, cheese, and veggie in a very flaky and extremely unhealthy crust. It was quite good, but was very heavy.

After lunch, we hiked the Tumgun Mountain. We enjoyed some incredible views and lots of lizards. We didn't realize this little hike was going to take over an hour, but it was worth it. We came upon a school of kids playing in a lagoon and then ended up back towards the start after a few lookout points.

Afterwards, we went to Burleigh Heads Beach Club and had a drink while watching the surfers come up for lunch and breaks.

After the beach club, we went back to our little beach and attempted some boogie boarding...and the waves won.

We walked out to an adorable fish taco place and picked up food for dinner. We came back to the house to eat it and played cards...lots of cards. I am NOT a fan of Yucher, but we also played hearts. We are very serious card players as you can see:

Justin and I were signed up for surf school the next morning, however because of the competition, we got stood up. We went out nice and early, way before our meeting time and sat in our designated meeting area...where we kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting. After watching a photo shoot of some super hot blonde, we decided to call them and they told us it was cancelled. : ( How sad. I didn't get to go to surf school in Surfers Paradise. BUT Justin still wanted to try it, so we drove down to Coolengata and rented a long board and hit the waves by his lonesome. Justin can now say he surfed (or gave it his best effort) in Surfers Paradise, Australia!

We left just before the storm hit and drove back to Brisbane. We unpacked, showered, and then Justin and I walked down a few blocks and stopped at several small outdoor pubs. It was so nice. The weather here is perfect, the people are so nice, and we are truly enjoying our life.
