Modern Art Museum & Queen Street Mall

After a morning of blogging about our mini vacation, we ate breakfast and headed out for the day.
Justin was excited about taking the public transportation, so we walked to the bus stop, rode a bus to the river, then took a citycat (public ferry) to South Bank and then walked to the art district.

We went to the Art Museum and then the Modern Art Museum. Today was Justin's day...all about the art. He loved every bit of it, and I pretended to. There was an exhibition of a local artist/surfer that was very interesting. We looked at a few sculptures and then headed on to the modern art which Justin said we would enjoy more.

I did enjoy a lot of the interactive things like the lego build and the wall of wishes. Justin made a little man and placed it on top of the artistic legos, and I made a double T...which I was very proud of!

Justin placed the double T on top of a building and on our way out, we checked to see if it was still there, and it was. I wonder how long it will be there! We will never really know...
There were several schools also visiting the museums and I enjoyed see all the different uniforms. They are very different than anything I have seen in the US. The museum was wonderful...way more than I was expecting.

There were lots of video type projects, paintings, interactive sculptures and hands on activities. Justin and my dad went into a room full of balloons and played around. The video is really funny...some were popping, and we had a hard time finding Justin at first. There were huge sculptures of trash bags and boxes. We even got to go inside a huge room filled with black lights and glow balls, as we balanced on a pier surrounded by water. It was so cool!

We ended the museum by going down a large slide from the third story to the first and then headed to Queen Street Mall. It's a HUGE indoor/outdoor mall with lots of shopping and dining options.

We ended up going to an Irish Pub, enjoying a pitcher of beer and nachos, and then walked around some more, and then went to another restaurant overlooking the shops below.

Justin and I enjoyed a pizza & beer and then walked to "First" again. Of course by this time Justin was very tired of me taking pictures of him, but it's just something I do...and he's happy about the pictures later! We spent a bit of time at First Bar last night and wanted to end our downtown tour the same way, so we wondered back to Edwards Park and had a cocktail.

We then walked back home. Another wonderful day in Brisbane. Our plans are to play bags in the back while grilling our dinner and then watching American Idol...
We're off at 6am to dive in the morning!
